Shedding some weight on the car

Thinking about ditching the spare in my '20 Kia forte to cut a little weight and free up some trunk space. I know it's not a huge difference, maybe about 30 to 40 lbs with the jack, I've sen somewhere that it helps with fuel economy and I wanna give it a try and even some newer cars skip the spare entirely and just put in a patch kit or a small compressor. Has anyone here swapped theirs out for something like that? , contemplating if its something that is worth trying out

Yeah, lots of newer cars skip the spare nowadays and sSwapping for a patch kit and compressor saves space and weight, but make sure you're comfortable dealing with flats that way before ditching it

If automakers are ditching spares for weight and space, are we actually improving efficiency or just shifting the risk and cost of a flat tire onto the driver when roadside support isn't nearby?

yep, make sure you get a good patch kit and a reliable compressor. Flat tires usually happen when you least expect them

I just traded my '18 Alfa Romeo for a '24 Forte GT. The Alfa came with run flat tires and no spare or jack. First thing I did was source a spare and jack, at no small expense for me. RFTs are only helpful if you're just down the road from a well stocked tire retailer when the puncture happens. BTW RFTs can't be plugged. I know it's a start but saving 40-50 pounds off a 3,400+/- car just isn't worth not having a spare tire.
